Are you interested in coming up with strategies for getting the word out about PS9 and all of its wonderful events? Maybe you know of a printer who might give us a good deal? Could you donate white or colored paper for flyers? Take photographs, make videos, help with writing, editing, web technology, graphic design, illustration – help us communicate!

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (Joint SLT/PTO Committee)
PS9 has a reputation as being one of the most economically and racially diverse schools in Brooklyn that is considered a success. We agree, but what does this mean? Who are we, what does this success mean, and how can we build on the strength of our diversity? Please join a few of us who are having a conversation about difference and diversity at PS9.

Provide strategic support in order to maximize the success of existing fundraising initiatives, including developing communications, increasing volunteerism, and establishing comprehensive calendar. Focus on Annual Direct Appeal and increasing support from beyond the immediate PS9 community of families.
Led by the PTO President and Vice President of Fundraising, along with Jessica Flores and Suyin So: PTO-President-Fundraising, PTO-VP-Fundraising, PTO-Fundraising-Events and PTO-Fundraising
You don’t have to have a “green thumb” to join this committee! We work together to connect the PS9 community to the school garden by maintaining the space, obtaining grants, supporting our Garden Educator and PS Teachers, organizing weekend work days, and hosting the annual October Pumpkin Patch and May Plant Sale events.

The Grant Writing Committee works on grants/capital funding in coordination with the administration. The committee helps secure, manage and execute grants/capital funding. We keep all the information in one place, put forward proposals, track the status of projects and help manage them through to completion. We interact with the principal, city officials, the SCA (School Construction Authority) and the DSF (Division of School Facilities).
Items we will be addressing this year include:
-Marquis Studio Grant
-Gym Acoustic funds
-Capital Funding tech upgrades
-New Participatory Budgeting Project
-Transitioning to new principal

Transportation Team (Informal Committee)
One of the core pillars of our Whole Child Network approach is safety in and around PS9. If you witness an unsafe traffic situation near the school (as a driver, cyclist, or pedestrian), it’s important to report it. And, you can join our Transportation Team to help develop approaches to keep the sidewalks and streets around our school safe.

Wellness/Whole Child Network (Joint PS 9/PTO Working Group)
Make sure that our children eat nutritious food at school, get enough exercise during the day, and that our school environment is a healthy one in every respect. We now have a salad bar for the cafeteria and more funding for exercise. We also provide healthy snacks on Movie Nights.
