Back to School Message from our PTO

Hello PS9 Community!!

After what has been hopefully a restorative and restful summer for our teachers, administrators, and staff, the wheels are beginning to churn again at PS9. Key personnel have started returning to the office and we expect that more information about classroom/teacher assignments and a lot of other information will soon be heading to an inbox or mailbox for you and your student(s).

The PTO and the SLT are looking forward to another great year of collaboration. We have been working together over the summer to ensure a smoother transition in September. Below we hope to answer some lingering questions and provide more information on some key issues. I tried not to make it too long, but that is mostly impossible, so here we go.

Save the Date – Saturday, September 18th!

The PTO will be hosting two events: a New Family Meet and Greet AND Together Again at PS9.

New families will have the opportunity to gather in the garden and then join what we hope is a larger gathering of our PS9 students and families in the play yard. More information will be coming soon!

After School Programming

Barring any issues with permitting, we will have FOUR (4) programs running on site at PS9. Please refer to this announcement on Konstella for detailed registration information.

Backpacks and Binoculars / World Explorers Pre-K through Grade 5
Trailblazers Pre-K through Grade 5
TEiAM K through Grade 5
NYJTL Pre-K through Grade 5

Recess Enrichment Programming

We are also extremely excited to announce that the PTO, directly because of financial contributions made by our PS9 families, has contracted with TEiAM to bring their wonderful athletic programming and philosophy to our recess period. While we will still be asking for volunteers during the lunch period, our TEiAM Coaches with be providing critical support and engaging programming to all of our students.

Before Care Access (for early drop off)

Starting at 7:30am each morning that school is in session, our TEiAM coaches, led by Coach Randy (formerly of PACC) and Coach Gabby (formerly of Playworks), will provide the opportunity for early drop off and breakfast at the school in a safe and engaged environment. This program is open to all students, whether you are enrolled in their afterschool program or not. And, thanks to the generous contributions of our PS 9 families, it’s FREE for all students.

There are still many unanswered questions about what this school year will look like, but are all fully invested in creating a safe, healthy, supportive, and academically successful environment for each and every student.

Please continue to reach out with any questions, comments, concerns, and suggestions. It is so wonderful to see so many people coming together to lend a hand and make a difference. THANK YOU.

Enjoy the waning days of summer. And take very good care.

Sincerely,

Jessica Flores

PTO President, on behalf of the PTO Executive Board and the Parent Leadership of the SLT
