Join us for P.S. 9’s Community Listening Circles
Issues of school integration and educational equity are complex and challenging. Discussion of these issues has elicited active debate across the city and nation. At P.S. 9 we have the opportunity to grapple with these issues in a supportive and respectful environment. We come together to share our commitment to supporting the growth and learning of each of P.S. 9’s wonderful students.
All members of the P.S. 9 community are invited to attend one of our upcoming Community Listening Circles. These events will begin with a brief presentation on the racial and ethnic demographics of the P.S. community as well as an overview of how issues of equity and integration are being addressed city-wide. The presentation will be followed by an opportunity for small group Listening Circles, where participants will RESPOND TO THE FOLLOWING PROMPTS:
* WHAT MIGHT PS9 GAIN THROUGH PHASING OUT G&T?
* WHAT MIGHT PS9 LOSE THROUGH PHASING OUT G&T?
* WHAT STRUCTURES AND SUPPORTS COULD BE PUT IN PLACE TO ADDRESS THESE POTENTIAL LOSSES?
Feedback shared in the Listening Circles will be incorporated into the EDI COMMITTEE’S PROPOSAL TO PHASE OUT G&T. THIS PROPOSAL WILL SIMPLY BE A RECOMMENDATION TO THE SCHOOL. THE DECISION ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THIS CHANGE RESTS WITH SCHOOL AND DISTRICT LEADERS.
