A Message from Our Principal

Dear PS9 Sarah Smith Garnet Community,

My name is Fatimah Ali, and I am honored and humbled to be the Principal at PS9. I look forward to working with the dedicated staff and parents to continue to provide the best possible experience for all our students. It is my desire and promise to work alongside all of you as we continue to build on the school’s expansion and success.

Although new to the PS9 community, having lived in Brooklyn, my heart has always been here. I have served as an educator within New York City Public Schools for thirteen years as a teacher, literacy staff developer, Assistant Principal and Principal in two boroughs (Manhattan and the Bronx). I am passionate about using mindful practices to nurture and grow each person’s individual strengths.

One of my goals as a Principal is to ensure that all of our students have access to opportunities and experiences, which lead them to self-actualization, deeper consciousness and seeing their own limitless potential.

As a leader, I will listen and ask questions. I believe the purpose of school is to engage and excite the “whole child” so that they can imagine the world as they wish it to be and co-create to leave their mark.

My hope is that we can connect and discover the amazing potential we have together as an aligned community committed to serving all our students.

With gratitude,

Fatimah Ali
