Dear PS9 Families,

We have spent all summer preparing and planning for how things will look this year. However, things are changing everyday, and while we are all doing our best to ensure decisions are impactful and support all of our students to the fullest extent possible, we also anticipate road bumps along the way over the next few weeks. We are open to revisiting our plans to refine them or change them as needed. I appreciate your patience as we all navigate this uncharted territory. To make sure that the lines of communication are open, I have weekly chats with the PTO communication team and host weekly/biweekly Parent Engagement sessions/presentations with Q & A. Videos of each session are available on

Cluster Classes

Thank you for your patience and partnership as we work to get all our students access to cluster teachers. Based on parent feedback, clusters have been assigned to all remote classrooms. Please see below for additional information as it relates to clusters.

For Fully Remote Students

Each Remote-Only class has been assigned to 2 cluster teachers and an optional gym cluster if they didn’t have a gym/movement class. Please view the invitation links on your Remote Teacher’s Google Classroom. Students are only responsible for the 2 Clusters assigned to their classroom. If they are interested in participating in the optional gym cluster, Mr. Lapine’s private Youtube channel is: and will also be posted in the remote classrooms.

Pre-K: Art and Technology

Kindergarten: Physical Education with Mr. Lynch and Literacy Cluster

1st Grade: Technology and Physical Education with Mr. Lynch

2nd Grade: Science and Physical Education with Mr. Lapine

3rd Grade: Science and Dance

4th Grade: Physical Education with Mr. Lapine and Literacy Cluster

5th Grade: Art and Dance

For Blended Students

Students will be meeting with their cluster teachers during the instructional day. The lessons will be designed so that learning activities extend at home via their cluster teachers google classroom.

Whether in the blended or fully remote environment, all PS 9 students will be engaging in remote learning, so we understand how important it is for your students to have devices and be able to log onto Google Classroom to interact with their teachers, and view and submit assignments.

As of today, all students should have access to their Google classroom. They will use their NYC Student Accounts to access TeachHub, which is now linked to Google classroom.  If you don’t see your teacher’s Google classroom, please reach out to the teacher for them to resend you an invite.

Assistance with Technology

We are working with our district, Borough Citywide Office, and central partners to resolve a number of technology issues that cannot be addressed here at the school level.

Moving forward, we ask that you:

  1. Reach out to Parent Coordinator Charmaine Derrell with any technical questions, AND
  2. Submit a request to the NYCDOE Help Desk for support to get a ticket number, AND
  3. Send that ticket number along with your name and your child’s name to Technology/STEAM Teacher Safak Ozsut

If you’ve already reached out and have a ticket number, please skip to step 3 and send the ticket number and names to Safak Ozsut .

In this manner, we will be able to resolve issues that are under our control, and will also be able to follow up on issues that require central assistance.

Thank you for the ongoing support.
