How to Apply to PS9
PS9 Sarah Smith Garnet (formerly Teunis J. Bergen) is located on 80 Underhill Avenue, in Brooklyn’s Community District 13. Most elementary students in New York City attend their zoned school. A zoned school is a neighborhood school for all students who live in a designated area, and is determined by the student’s home address. Please confirm that your student is zoned for PS9 by entering your home address in the Find a School search tool (or call 311).

Due to an increase in zoned inhabitants and growing interest in our school, fewer out of zone students are being admitted to PS9. Be sure to add your student to the waiting list as soon as possible.
During the school’s closure due to the coronavirus, all tours have been suspended. If you have any questions, you may contact Charmaine Derrell-Jacob, our Parent Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In the meantime, view our school’s Video Tour.
Admissions for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten programs are handled by the New York City Department of Education. To learn more about these processes, visit Enrollment Grade by Grade page on their website.
Grades 1 to 5
The majority of students in grades 1 to 5 who reside within the PS9 school zone are admitted to PS9. Admissions to grades 1 to 5 are processed within the school by our Community Associate in charge of Pupil Accounting. To apply, please complete the form below. Due to school building closure during the pandemic, we are not able to register in person. We will contact you when we receive your application:
