Jardín infantil bilingüe de Ms. Shaw-Murphy, 2012/ Ms. Shaw-Murphy's dual-language kindergarten class, 2012

Información basica sobre el programa:

Está abierto para estudiantes que empiezan el jardín infantil (Kindergarten) en el año escolar 2012-2013
Las clases incluyen hablantes nativos de inglés y hablantes nativos de español
Todas las materias académicas son enseñadas en los dos lenguajes
El 50% de la instrucción es en inglés y 50% es en español
Empieza con jardín infantil y continua hasta el quinto grado
Los alumnos desarrollarán niveles altos de dominio en su primero y segundo idioma
Los alumnos estarán preparados para tener éxito académico en inglés
Podemos aceptar a alumnos que hablan español que viven afuera de la zona de PS 9

Open Houses:
February 17, 9:30 a.m. | March 9, 9:30 a.m.

Basic information about the program:

It’s open to students who begin Kindergarten in the 2012-2013 school year
The class includes native English and native Spanish speakers
All academic subjects are taught in both languages
50% of instruction is in English and 50% in Spanish
It begins in Kindergarten and will continue through 5th grade
Students develop fluency and literacy in their first and second language
It’s free!

PS 9 PTO & Title I October 18th Meeting

Tuesday, October 18
6:30 p.m. in the Library

Topics to be discussed include an update on the flood/sewage overflow and a message from Principal D’Avilar and parent Co-ordinator Charmaine Derrel-Jacob. hear about the progress of PS 9 subcommittees and learn about upcoming events like the Candy Sale, Silent Auction, and Picture Day.

Show off your Baking Skills

If you love to bake or simply want to volunteer your time to help make PS 9 events special, you can call Laura Jaffe, PTO Co-Preside, at 917-673-2157 or the PTO office at 718-638-3260, ext 7. You can even stop by the PTO office Monday, Wednesday or Friday during school hours to find out what events you may be able to participate in. Here are a few coming up soon:

Hispanic Heritage Day, Friday Oct. 14
Harvest Festival, Monday, Oct. 31
Election Day Bake Sale, Tuesday, Nov. 8

And if you love to throw parties, your skills would be most welcome on the Hospitality Committee. They will be meeting after the general PTO meeting. Or you can get in touch with Maria McGrath at mariaw@brooklynmcgrath.net.

Come to learn about PS 9 Committees

There is a committee that is just right for you! From fund raising and grant writing to gardening and bake sales, these committees have been able to accomplish amazing things for our school. Don’t be afraid that a busy schedule means you can’t participate. Most committees are able to take advantage of email, document sharing, and other online wonders. At this meeting , committees will be breaking of into groups so you can participate and meet members who will be happy to answer any questions.

During the meeting, childcare will be provided in the gym.

Hispanic Heritage Day/Día de la Herencia Hispana, October 14th

Please join us Friday, October 14th, for an all-day celebration of Hispanic Heritage. There will be music, food, and student performances throughout the day.

Acompáñanos a celebrar la Herencia Hispana el viernes, 14 de octubre. Habrá música, comida y espectaculos de estudiantes durante todo el día.

Celebrate Hispanic Culture
With PS 9 on October 14th.

Por favor, prepare un plato de su tierra natal con su hijo a compartir en la Celebración de la Hispanidad, el viernes 14 de octubre en PS 9.

This celebration is a festive, high-energy event for the whole school. Class performances will begin at 12:30 for Pre-K and Kindergarten classes. Grades 1 and 2 will begin performances at 1:20. Performances will be preceded in the gym with food, music and The Spanish Museum of Culture.

That is where the parents come in. We are asking volunteers to bring in food that represents the distinctive cuisines of Spain and the Americas. Explore the culture through its cuisine and bring in a main dish, side, bread, salad or dessert. And if you have any authentic Hispanic artifacts and would like to donate them to the Spanish Museum for the day bring them in for display.

New family welcome at Underhill Playground

The PS 9 PTO welcomes our incoming Pre-K and Kindergarten families to our school at a fun meet-and-greet at Underhill Playground. Saturday, August 27th from 9 AM to noon. We are looking forward to sharing details about upcoming meetings and events over bagels and coffee.

Spring has arrived and PS9 classes are taking advantage of the fine weather and cultural activities the City has to offer. On a recent trip, Mrs. Field’s pre-K class visited the Brooklyn Botanic Garden to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom.
