As many of you know, PS 9 has served as a collection point for Project Back to School, a backpack donation drive by the Coalition for the Homeless that benefits homeless children in New York City schools. We are pleased to announce that PS 9 is once again participating in Project Back to School this year.

Last year more than 105,000 NYC school kids experienced homelessness at some point – that’s one in ten students in our city. As family incomes are stretched extremely thin, items like backpacks, notebooks, binders and other school supplies are simply out of reach for far too many of these kids.

Please consider joining other PS 9 families in donating new backpacks with school supplies for a homeless child. More info on Project Back to School, and a shopping list by grade, can be found here.

The last day to drop off backpacks at PS 9 is Friday, September 15. Backpacks can be dropped off with PS 9’s parent coordinator, Ms. Charmaine Derrell-Jacob, who serves as the point of contact for this drive. The PS 9 front office staff can also help you out if you arrive with a donation but don’t see Ms. Jacob.

Thank you for your generosity!
